Chair Slippers

Hello readers! Here it is, my first tutorial :) Yesterday I finally finished a project that I have been working on almost all year:

They're not hard, it just took me a while because I'd finish a few and then get bored or distracted by another project, then come back and do a few more, etc. I think I got the idea from a Pinterest picture, or something. My chairs already had felt pads on the bottom to help them slide across the floor better, but they kept falling off. I'm sure there are others out there who have this problem. It was driving me crazy! So, I decided to make my chairs (and table) some little slippers :)

 The slippers are made with some yarn I had laying around the house. But I added some plarn to it to give it extra strength. (Plarn = plastic bag yarn. Check out the link for info on how to make it!) I love it when my crafts use up stuff sitting around my house! For this project, I used 32 grocery bags. That's 32 less bags taking up space in my pantry. Recycling is awesome :)

The slippers perfectly fit my chairs legs at just over 5" around. The table leg covers are bigger at 6.5" around. Following is a crochet pattern. It is simple and only uses single crochet.

key:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
st = stitch

Chair Slippers (for 5" circumference legs)

Materials needed:

• medium-weight yarn, any brand/color
• 1 grocery size plastic bag per slipper
• size I crochet hook (5.5mm)*

*A side note - I tend to crochet very tightly. If you have a looser stitch, I would recommend using size H (5mm)

First, cut your bag into 16-19 strips (abt 3/4"-1" thick; more strips = taller slipper) and knot your plarn together. Remember, only cut and tie one bag per slipper. Tie a simple overhand knot in the end, leaving a loop just big enough for your crochet hook to fit through. Make a slipknot with your yarn and add it to your hook with the plarn.

R1- ch2, 6sc in second ch from hook
R2- 2sc in each st around (12)
R3- [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st] 4 times (16)
R4-end- continue to sc around until you run out of plarn. I like to make my last stitch through the loop of the plarn so it won't unravel. Make one final round of sc with just yarn (16).
Finish off, weave in end.

Voila! All done :) Now quickly, here are directions for the table slippers - very similar:


Table Slippers (for 6.5" circumference legs)

Materials needed:

• medium-weight yarn, any color
• 2 grocery size plastic bags per slipper
• size I crochet hook (5.5mm)*

*see note above

Again, cut your bag into 16-19 strips (abt 3/4"-1" thick), knot your plarn together. Only cut and tie two bags per slipper. Tie an overhand knot in the end, leaving a loop just big enough for your crochet hook. Make a slipknot with your yarn and add it to your hook with the plarn.

There you have it. :) I slid my slippers right on over the felt pads already on my chairs and table - they should fit nice and tight so that they don't slide off. So far, my slippers have stayed on pretty well. They make it super nice to slide chairs in and out from the table. I hope you like yours just as much!

About two months ago, I had this great idea for a blog/vlog in which I would record and share a song a day from the Children's Songbook.

-As a side note, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints [Mormons], and I volunteer my time each week to teach young children music (in an organization called "Primary," from the Children's Songbook, published by the Church) about and relating to our faith. My official title is "Primary Chorister" and I love it!! Whether you agree or disagree with my beliefs, I hope you still find some of my ideas and tutorials useful and inspiring and visit often, because I am SUPER EXCITED to share them with you! FYI, although I do not intend for this to be a religious blog, some posts will definitely center around my religion and faith as both are an integral part of my life. Anyway, I started working on this blog, and even set up a page for it, but couldn't find the motivation to start it up. So then I started thinking about other things I wanted to share and decided it would be awesome to have a blog where I can share some of my favorite music and Primary ideas and in which to catalogue and share the various home projects and crafts I've completed. ...Because I'm pretty sure my Facebook friends are sick of the pictures spamming their newsfeed... I love to sew and have also spent some time crocheting and tying bracelets. I've gotta keep my hands busy, ya know? It keeps me feeling useful.

So, if you are like me, have an appreciation for good music and need a project to do, I'm gonna do my best to show you some of my favorite stuff! Most of it will be fairly simple - I always strive for perfection (though it's hard to obtain haha), and the easier the project, the closer to perfection I can get, the more satisfaction I receive on completion. Also, I make no promises pertaining to frequency of posting. Sometimes I get distracted and sometimes I just procrastinate. Sorry. I will do my best to stay current and be consistent!
